5 Trade Ideas Alternatives That Cost Less
(And What You Give Up)

Updated April 2026 ~10 min read AlphaSignal Research
The Short Version

For pure day traders chasing intraday momentum, there is no real Trade Ideas replacement under $100. The alternatives below serve different — and sometimes overlapping — needs at lower cost. Most are better suited to swing traders or chart-focused workflows than to active day trading.

Context: What Trade Ideas Actually Costs

Trade Ideas Standard runs $167/mo on a monthly basis, or $118/mo billed annually. That's real money — $1,416/year before you've placed a single trade. The Premium plan, which includes Holly AI, goes to $254/mo ($180/mo annual).

If Holly AI's pre-market scanner is central to your morning routine, that cost is hard to avoid. But if you're paying for Trade Ideas and not actively using Holly's overnight signals, cheaper options exist that cover the parts you're actually using. Be clear, though: every alternative in this list requires a meaningful tradeoff.

What Makes Trade Ideas Hard to Replace

Before evaluating alternatives, it helps to understand what you're actually trying to replace. Trade Ideas does two things no other tool in this price range does as well:

Holly AI overnight scanning

Holly runs 70+ simulated trading strategies every night, cross-references results against current market conditions, and surfaces 3–5 high-conviction setups before the open. No other consumer tool does pre-market AI scanning at this depth for under $300/mo.

Real-time market-wide scanning

Trade Ideas monitors the entire US equity universe simultaneously in real-time, flagging momentum setups as they develop. Most alternative platforms analyze charts you're already watching — Trade Ideas finds the setups you haven't started watching yet.

Set realistic expectations going in: the tools below are cheaper because they do something different, not because they've replicated Trade Ideas at a lower price point.

Alternative 1 — TrendSpider ($79–$107/mo)

Best for: Technical swing traders
Price: $79/mo annual, $107/mo monthly

TrendSpider automates the technical analysis workflow. It draws trendlines using objective criteria (minimum three price touches), performs multi-timeframe analysis automatically, and offers walk-forward backtesting — the most rigorous form of strategy validation available in consumer platforms. If you spend significant time drawing levels manually and holding positions for days rather than minutes, TrendSpider is a legitimate upgrade for that specific workflow.

What you give up: There is no real-time momentum scanning. No Holly-equivalent AI. TrendSpider will not tell you which 200 tickers are moving right now or generate a pre-market watchlist from overnight signals. It analyzes charts you bring to it — it doesn't find the setups for you.

Verdict

Different tool, not a replacement. Better for swing traders than day traders. If your primary complaint with Trade Ideas is cost and you're using it for multi-day setups, TrendSpider makes sense. If you're a momentum day trader, it doesn't solve your problem.

Alternative 2 — Tickeron ($60–$90/mo)

Best for: Pattern-based signal traders
Price: $60–$90/mo depending on plan

Tickeron uses AI Robots — pre-built algorithmic strategies that scan for pattern-based entries and publish performance data so you can evaluate signal quality before committing. It's one of the few platforms at this price point that shows you the historical accuracy of its signals with actual numbers attached. See also our Tickeron vs Trade Ideas breakdown for a head-to-head comparison.

What you give up: Tickeron's signals are slower. The platform is oriented toward pattern recognition — head and shoulders, flags, wedges — rather than the momentum and volume-driven signals Trade Ideas surfaces. There's no pre-market scanning depth comparable to Holly AI. You're working with a fundamentally different signal type.

Verdict

Complementary, not a direct replacement. If you trade patterns over momentum, Tickeron is worth evaluating at a materially lower cost. It doesn't slot in as a Trade Ideas substitute for intraday traders.

Alternative 3 — TradingView Pro+ ($30/mo)

Best for: Chart-focused traders who write Pine Script
Price: $30/mo (Pro+)

TradingView at $30/mo is the cheapest option on this list by a significant margin. The platform covers stocks, crypto, forex, and futures with excellent charting tools. With Pine Script, you can build custom scanners and alerts that partially replicate what Trade Ideas does — if you're willing to write the code yourself. See our TradingView vs TrendSpider comparison for how these platforms stack up on the technical analysis side.

What you give up: Everything that makes Trade Ideas worth paying for. No built-in AI signals, no Holly AI equivalent, no OddsMaker-style backtest validation against scan criteria. TradingView's scanner is manual by default. Building anything comparable to Trade Ideas' real-time scanning requires meaningful Pine Script ability and ongoing maintenance.

Verdict

Only viable if you're technical enough to build your own scans and maintain them. For the average Trade Ideas user, TradingView Pro+ doesn't solve the same problem — it shifts work back to you rather than automating it.

Alternative 4 — Finviz Elite ($40/mo)

Best for: Fundamental + technical screener users
Price: $40/mo

Finviz Elite is fast, stable, and genuinely good at what it does: screening the US equity universe using a combination of fundamental and technical filters. At $40/mo, it's the most cost-efficient screener on this list. For swing traders who build their watchlists after market close using metrics like P/E, float, sector, and simple technical filters, it covers the basics without complexity overhead.

What you give up: Almost everything Trade Ideas provides for active trading. Finviz Elite does not offer real-time intraday data, AI-generated signals, pre-market scanning, or meaningful alert depth. It refreshes on a delay. Using Finviz Elite to replace Trade Ideas for day trading is like replacing a car with a bicycle — they both get you somewhere, but not in the same way.

Verdict

Great for swing traders who screen after market close. Useless for intraday trading. If your workflow is end-of-day research into next-day setups and you're not running Trade Ideas' real-time scanner during the session, Finviz Elite is a legitimate budget option.

Alternative 5 — Trade Ideas Standard vs Premium

Best for: Existing Trade Ideas users managing cost
Price: $118/mo annual (Standard)

This is often the most overlooked option: if cost is the issue but you still want Trade Ideas, the Standard plan at $118/mo annual captures roughly 80% of the platform's value. You get the full real-time scanner, all the built-in channels, and the ability to build and run custom scans.

The critical distinction: Holly AI is Premium-only. That's the $254/mo tier (or $180/mo annual). Holly's overnight signal generation — the pre-market watchlist feature that most Trade Ideas power users cite as the core differentiator — is not available on Standard. If Holly is why you're paying, downgrading to Standard doesn't solve your cost problem, it just reduces what you're getting.

Verdict

If you use Trade Ideas mainly for manual scanning during market hours and rarely act on Holly's signals, Standard at $118/mo annual saves $744/year with minimal functional loss. If Holly AI is your primary use case, this isn't a real alternative.

Trade Ideas Premium $180/mo annual Yes (Holly AI) Yes Day trading
Trade Ideas Standard $118/mo annual No Yes Day trading
TrendSpider $79/mo annual No Limited Swing trading

Finviz Elite $40/mo No No EOD screening

The Bottom Line

The honest answer depends entirely on your trading style:

For pure day traders

There is no real Trade Ideas replacement under $100. The tools that come closest — like a custom-built TradingView scanner — require significant technical overhead and still don't match the depth of Holly AI's overnight analysis. If day trading US equities is your primary activity, paying for Trade Ideas Premium is the most defensible choice. See our full Trade Ideas review for a detailed breakdown of what you get.

For swing traders

TrendSpider at $79/mo annual or Tickeron at $60–$90/mo serve different but overlapping needs at lower cost. Neither replaces Trade Ideas — they're not built to. But if your strategy is based on technical structure over multiple days, Trade Ideas Premium is likely more tool than you need.

For chart-only traders

TradingView Pro+ at $30/mo with custom Pine Script scanners is the lowest-cost path. The tradeoff is time: building and maintaining custom scripts takes real effort. If you have that skill and prefer a self-directed approach, it's a legitimate option.

If you're currently paying for Trade Ideas Premium and not using Holly AI, downgrade to Standard and save $744/year. If you're using Holly daily, keep the Premium plan — there's no comparable replacement at a lower price point.
